Hearts on Fire Story: Intensity in the World’s Most Perfectly-Cut Diamond
“Bigger, bolder, brighter and better!”
For those who live intensely and love profoundly, HEARTS ON FIRE diamonds is the ONLY diamond paradigm of such emotion.
Captivated by the exotic tales of diamond trade in 1978, Glenn and Susan Rothman opened a diamond wholesale business in Boston. Yet the company did not come into its niche in the diamond industry until 1996. While in Belgium, Glenn was mesmerized by an unusually cut diamond that captured light brilliantly because of its 8-pointed fire bursts on its top and 8-perfectly proportioned hearts on its bottom. It was a rare phenomenon that only occurred when the diamond with cut flawlessly. Obsessed with cutting all his diamonds in this fashion, HEARTS ON FIRE was born.
Their niche became a diamond that was cut for beauty, and so perfect was its cut that it illuminated light in every setting. Unlike the industry that focused on karat as the critical creation point of the diamond, the Rothmans focused on beauty through cut. Thus they created a diamond that was perfectly-cut, perfectly proportioned, perfectly symmetrical and perfectly polished.
In creating the world’s most perfectly-cut diamond, the selection of the raw diamond and process: sawing, cleaving, bruting, facet creation and polish, had to be reconceptualized for the better. The design and planning was changed. Who/how many people would cut the diamond was also consolidated to 1.
Diamonds selected contain no knots, crystal distortions which hinder the level of clarity in a diamond, have an S1 or better (clarity) and are a J or better (color). From 250,000 tons of ores, less than 1% of these can become a Hearts on Fire diamond. Hearts on Fire diamonds are also conflict-free diamonds, in that human rights were protected in the acquisition of these diamonds. These diamonds are bruted using computer imaging software, which guarantees near perfect roundness. These diamond’s facets re the cut under a 100 times magnification, 10 times greater than the industry standard, using a NASA-based computer imaging software, which ensure that each of its facets are proportional, with precise angles, which is in great contrast to the industry’s method, which only delivers “averages” in its facets’ angles. These precise angles guarantee optimal performance, in the manner of how light enters and is reflected in the diamond. Diamonds are then polished using a vibration-free wheel, which is based off a Rolls Royce technology, the same on technology that keeps jet engines from falling off a plane when airborne. Thus because cut is so critical to Hearts on Fire, it delivers an end diamond that is so perfectly cut, perfectly symmetrical, perfectly proportional and perfectly polished, which in turn delivers such an intensity in its reflection of light, that even in the darkest on rooms, under the dimmest of lights, it dazzles from its top.
Diamonds from Hearts on Fire are perfectly-cut so that they reflect light, much like light is reflected in a windows and mirrors. Light enters through a window and reflected/deflected back from the mirror. In relation to the diamond, an perfectly-cut diamond reflects light in this manner, light enters the diamond, then is reflected from the top. It reflects all spectrum of light in a rainbow. Leakage of light from the bottom of the diamond does not occur.
The GRAVEST ISSUE IN THE INDUSTRY is that cutters are paid bonuses for extracting the most weight possible out of a raw diamond. They are paid in piecemeal. Thus, while these cutters are earn bigger profits, they produce an inconsistent end product in relation to color, clarity and most importantly reflection of light.
Hearts on Fire sets is prices based on industry standards in relation to the color, cut, carat and clarity of the diamond. Its prices are not inflated. AGS determines price of a diamond based on color, clarity and cut, giving more weight to the cut, which affects its light performance. These three factors also dramatically impact the beauty of a diamond in relation to its performance. According to AGS standards, ” Because of cutting, diamonds with the same color and clarity grades can vary in value by as much as 50% . However because of its perfect cut, Hearts on Fire diamonds look two grades higher in color when viewed face up.
SECURITY AND IDENTITY OF DIAMOND
Unlike the industry, each perfectly-cut diamond is laser-inscribed with a serial number. Serving as the social security number of the diamond, it protects consumers from the possibility of their diamond being switched out when it is sent in to be cleaned or worked on. For consumers who are not too familiar with inclusions: feathers or black dots on stone, and have trouble finding any inclusions on a Hearts on Fire diamond, the serial number gives them a sure way to identify their diamond among others.
CONSUMER ENTHUSIASM FOR THE PRODUCT
Consumers were immediately attracted to the luminance of the perfectly-cut diamond; it sold out its first diamond collection on its birth year: 1996.
In 1998, it established a global presence in Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Caribbean. Women across the globe were becoming the envy of diamond lovers, with the world’s most-perfectly cut stone glittering on their finger.
Opting to set its diamonds in jewelry and expand its product line, in 1999 Hearts on Fire launched its first exclusive jewelry line. Using only the finest of metals: platinum and 18 K yellow and white gold, mixed with rhodium to maintain its color, it created rings and earrings.
In 2002, pushing the standard of the diamond industry further it created and patented the DREAM diamond, which brought the same level of brilliance and intensity to the square-cut diamond.
ROTHMAN’S DREAM IN A DIAMOND
In 2000 diamond artisans set out to create a square-cut diamond that would reflect light as brilliantly as the brilliant round-cut diamond. After two years of trial and tribulations, thousands of tons of diamonds and 30 attempts, the DREAM diamond was awakened and patented.
It is cut with superlative brilliance and displays the same level of intensity, fire and sparkle as its sister diamond. Like the brilliant round-cut diamond, its bottoms when viewed under a Proportion scope shows 8 perfectly proportioned hearts. Its top too features the 8-point Firebursts. It was the first diamond cut to the same brilliant performance standards as the brilliant-round diamond.
Unlike its sister the brilliant-round cut diamond, the DREAM diamond goes a step further and was awarded the diamond with the best performance in relation to the manner in which it reflects light. Like its sister diamond, it too reflects light on the top and much like light enters a window and bounces off a mirror, yet BETTER.
HEARTS ON FIRE IN THE INDUSTRY

Glittering on the runaway, it also designed the $6.5 million Hearts on Fire Fantasy bra worn by Karolina Kurvoka at the finale of the Victoria Secret Fashion Show. In 800 carats, with more than 2000 brilliant round-cut diamonds and a 10 carat brooch at its center, the fantasy bra was the North Star of the Christmas-Wonderland final segment. Her beauty was complimented brilliantly by the intensity of the bra’s diamonds and its intricacy in 2006.

In 1996 Hearts of Fire achieved near-God-like perfection in the cutting of its diamonds. In choosing the diamonds, only those without knots and pure crystals were selected. It mastered the way in which it was cut through increasing the magnification in which its diamonds was viewed to be cut to 100 times, created a vibration-free wheel for polishing and each diamond was only cut by one person. It created a diamond that because of its perfect cut is perfectly proportioned, perfectly symmetrical and perfectly polished, and reflects light from the top in the manner in which light enters a window and bounces off a mirror. In any light the diamond shines. It gives off the illusion of magically creating light in even the darkest of rooms, because its precise angles in its facets capture light in even the dimmest of lighting. It set apart its wearer apart from the rest.
In 1996 and in 2002 Hearts on Fire set the paradigm for ultimate beauty in a diamond. In 1996 and 2002 the true intensity and rarity of love was captured through the diamond.
